Friends of GCS

Who Are We?
The Friends of GCS is the PTA and is a registered charity run by a committee of enthusiastic volunteer parents and school representatives.
The aims of the charity are to provide a sense of community between parents, students and the school as well as raising funds for large and small projects to benefit the students.
Our Current Project
This year the main fundraising project for FCGS is to finance two mobile, WiFi enabled interactive screens that can be used in the new Mayhew Auditorium for teaching and small presentations. These will give the school excellent flexibility to not only use them in the Auditorium which can be split into two separated areas but also allows use in the Dining Hall, the new SEND department and other large spaces that were previously "dead" spots.

What We Do
The committee generally meets once a term and the AGM is held in September or October each year.
Each year the profit raised is split between a major project and curriculum bursaries also known as the ‘subject wish list’. In the past, items purchased have included inventor kits to support learning in IT, a weather station for geography, extra text books for English, dictionaries for foreign languages as well as crash mats for PE.
In 2020/1 our major fundraising project was to replace the school's aged minibus. We successfully raised £28,500 to enable the purchase a brand new 17 seater minibus. Unfortunately delivery of the minibus has been severely delayed as a result of COVID-19 and Brexit impacting the supply chain of new vehicles.
In 2021/2 we raised £8,500 towards the state-of-art acoustic and audio-visual infra-structure for the fabulous new Mahyew Auditorium.

We are heavily reliant on parent donation, give-as-you-earn, give-as-you-shop, Guildford Lottery subscriptions and second hand uniform sales. The links to many of these are to the left of this page. Please take a look and support us where you can.
New committee members are always welcome as are people who don’t want to attend the meetings but are willing to help at one or more events throughout the year. The current chairperson is standing down in July 2023 and an replacement is urgently needed to ensure a smooth handover.
